Optimal Freshness
Fresh truffles are best enjoyed immediately, as their aroma and taste diminish over time. For the highest quality, The Truffle House recommends using your truffles within 48 hours of delivery. Properly stored, black truffles have a shelf life of about seven days, while white truffles typically last a bit shorter.
Storing Fresh Truffles
To preserve your truffles, keep them in a dry, cool place, wrapped in a clean paper towel. You may also store them in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator. Wine cellars are an excellent option due to their regulated temperature.
Maintenance
Change the paper towel at least once a day to absorb excess humidity and prevent the truffles from rotting. Spoiled truffles will have a soft texture, a loss of consistency, and an unpleasant odor.
Freezer Storage
Truffles can be frozen for up to six months in an airtight or freezer-safe container. Alternatively, wrap them in aluminum foil or plastic wrap. For best results, freeze truffles in small quantities to maintain their freshness. Note that freezing may cause a loss of aroma and flavor. Use defrosted truffles immediately and avoid refreezing.
